GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) is a practical two-way radio service for communicating with family and friends which requires an FCC license [no test required].
You can talk radio-to-radio directly, or use repeaters (like those our club provides) to extend your range across a much larger area.
GMRS is regulated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and requires a $35 license, but no test is needed—unlike Amateur (HAM) radio. The license covers you and your entire family for 10 years.
Links and How to Get Started
The first thing you will need is a GMRS license from the FCC. If you already have one you can skip this section.
If you have never registered for a license from the FCC, the first step is creating an FCC Registration Number (FRN)
